Little house by the quay.

Just out of curiosity, and please don't get too annoyed with me for suggesting it, here is my idea of a "Holga" image, created from a digital image. Please be honest without being too cruel :D

I love the way that the Holga can turn a very ordinary subject into a work of art.
Tell me how “Holga can turn a very ordinary subject into a work of art.”

Okey-dokey...... I love the way a very ordinary plastic budget-quality camera, in the right hands, can be used to produce an artwork that is very pleasing to look at. Like a mason's mallet, a few pennies worth of tool can be used to produce something that can evoke an emotional response in the eye of the beholder........
That's how. Tommy, I like the image.
Joanna Carter, I like the question your image asks in my mind. How far down the roof ladder can the roofer go without falling off? Thanks for posting.

You OK with a real camera Dingo, love that one, so what’s not gimmicky about your hi tech gear, the Holga does the same thing as high tech, it takes a picture, what’s gimmicky about that.

Thanks everyone for your comments, very interesting. I took this photo back in mid October on a lovely autumn evening with my Holga camera and as it so happens I also had my Minolta Autocord in my bag. The Autocord has the highly rated Rokkor lens and my Holga has either a plastic or glass lens. I never bothered to find out which. There was only one shot left in the Autoicord so I decided to use it and out of curiosity I also took one shot with the Holga. I stepped back a little with the Holga shot as I wanted to retain the soft out of focus and slight vignette around the perimeter of the photo. From memory I did not crop either negative.

I would never have thought of using the Autocord photo as I much preferred the one from the Holga. It is worth noting that I could not edit the Autocord photo to match the one from the Holga. I will attach both photos and let the viewer make up their own mind. I should also say that I never regard any of my photos as art, they are just a reminder, to me, of what happens to catch my eye when out for a walk.

That’s not an answer. That’s an excuse for an answer.
If you do know, and you suggest you do, then you know why and how. If you don’t then your answer would be different.
Or you’re suggesting if I don’t get it I never will, or possibly I’m too thick to understand or I shouldn’t know because I’m .... what? Australian? Atheist? Black? Hang on. I’m not black. That can’t be a reason. White? Old?
Why so aggressive?

Heheheh. Give me an LF camera any day over all those complicated menus on digital cameras :p

What I love about LF (and MF film) is that you don't have to fight to take charge of the camera to get a decent exposure. I daren't buy a Holga, even though I love the idea. But I do have a Mamiya 7II, which is a shear joy to use, and the results, though not as "particulier" as the Holga, make me wonder why I bother to use 5x4 sometimes.

The truth is, I can be a bit lazy and, like anyone with Yorkshire roots, I tend to have short arms and deep pockets ;), so digital tends to trump film a lot of the time, simply because it doesn't cost anything to get the result on the screen of my computer. Of course, there's always the cost of printing (and a good photo should always be printed), but properly executed digital prints are perfectly fine for proof sizes and, if I really want a "biggie", I just send the file to Ilford for their laser, silver, thingy.

Oh, and I thoroughly "get" why anyone would use a camera like a Holga; last night I watched a documentary on Chalkie Davies; he got to the stage of using a 20x24 Polaroid portrait camera. Wow, did I get an attack of the wants!
