The High Passes

These two scanned from Colour Negative film taken on my last Euro Motorcycle tour in 2019. Terrific fun but quite hard work. Grimsel Pass is just over 8500 feet and Stelvio over 9000

Did Stelvio once on a push-bike with full camping kit. Ah, the folly of youth.

I got swamped on this run up Stelvio when I got mixed up with hundreds of cyclists (no exaggeration) on a ride up to the summit, There are around 49 hairpins on the ascent, which I endured most of the way up, stop-starting until I think the 45th or 46th hairpin I was able to get past to ride up to the top. Whether I get up there again I don't know but it is getting too popular and congested to be a pleasure.

Folly! I couldn't have pedalled up our drive with full camping kit even at that age.

@ John King, looks to be rugged country. You have caught the feel.

The beauty of it is the condition of the roads they are in superb condition far better than some of our A roads and most of our B Roads.

At present the tops are all covered in deep snow up to 12 feet depth and if you open google and type in Stelvio Webcam you can see what it is like at the moment. Don't forget they are an hour ahead of us so it will be getting dark soon - very dark.
