I have a Nikon D70 that has been converted and I'm only just starting to play around with it a bit more seriously. My only problem with it is that I currently only have a 50mm lens that it will work with but I aim to remedy that shortly. I have tried to correct the focus myself and while I don't think I've done too bad a job using some test targets I still try and shoot stopped down a little to help. This image was taken with a custom white balance (a picture of green grass) and then converted into B+W in NIK silver efex. All I'vereally done is increased contrast very slightly and removed a couple of dust spots. Probably a little dark for most viewers but I quite like it

I think most would expect to see whiter foliage, seeing it here does not really make one think it is IR , could it be that it is underexposed, forcing the whites down the histogram and turning the tones to mid gray
 
I'll have another look at the original and more importantly the exif data when I get a chance. It could be underexposed, I remember now that the person who done the conversion recommended overexposing slighlty. It's been a while since I bought it and haven't really used it much since.
 
Here is the original converted to jpg but untouched. No exposure compensation according to the exif data.

It was very changeable, as the highlands of Scotland usually are!!! :)
One second it was blazing sunshine next it was black and bucketing down, sometimes both at the same time. I know most people say IR is best done in bright light, and in the main I agree, but sometimes I think that look can be overdone.
 
I have seen IR images made by converted digital cameras before and they have all been a lot visually brighter than yours. I don't know what you have or have not done but there is a picture there just waiting to get out. I have used IR film on a day when it has been misty and in the darkroom I was able to get something different from the normal IR picture.

The reason it looks a bit duller than normal is that after the camera is converted it needs the exposure compensation increased a little, I forgot to do this!!! It could also be that I have just bought a new i1display to calibrate my monitor and I don't think I have done it quite right, so it could be looking completely different to you guys than it is to me.
But still, while I like the classic IR look I personally like the feel of this shot.

The problem is not to fix it, its to understand how its happened, the image is clearly underexposed, draw a line under this one, go and try again, this time getting the exposure correct, mistakes can be a great way of learning.
 
Hmmm. I am trying to upload my version of the image. I cancelled the first upload and, since then, get stuck at 8% and end up cancelling again.
 
Joanna has had a play about witht the original but is having some problems uploading it. She has kindly emailed it to me so I can post it.

This is my effort. The reason I asked for a copy was to see what the quality is like, not to see what I could do with it. I have a Nikon D70 that I might get converted to IR. Still, it was fun trying :)

Paul, your effort is almost exactly what I am busy printing off right this minute!!!!
