My wife just treated me to a new light meter, I have always just used the the incident reading on my old sekonic meter so I am looking for some tips on using the spot meter function on my new one.
I particularly would like to get proficient with the zone system with this meter and try and use its capabilities to the best of my abilty.

I notice Martin use's one from time to time and gets his averages correct.

Is it the 850 or 858D?

With this type of meter, using it for the Zone system is pretty straight forward.

The first tip I will give you is to program the ISO2 option to read -2 stops.

The next tip is to learn how to quickly set the readout to show EV values because you will find it much easier when working out the subject brightness range of the scene which is helpful should you need to change your development time to compensate for the scene (assuming you are using sheet film).

How much of the Zone system do you currently understand ?

Hi Ian yes sorry got the number wrong its a 858D, as for the zone system, I think I have got my head around it, but still lots to learn and sink in.

I can help you with this. If you drop me a private message, we could probably do this online on a 1 to 1 session
