Pinhole eclipse

Thank you, Martin, yes it was, so half of it is in the right category I have been doing quite a lot of digital pinholes on and off over the last 18 months.

Sony Nex3 - Homemade 3d printed adaptor, 2 black vacuum cleaner tubes (stuck to adapter with gaffer tape - I crossed fingers! Used a 3d printed plate I had made with pinhole 0.6mm stuck at the end held on with hot glue gun - light leaks covered with black tape. According to the calculations pinhole should be about 1.2mm but I only thought about a having a go at 6pm so I used what I had already made and bodged them together.
It worked quite well very hard to actually get the sun in the shot (700mm on aps is really about 1000mm) only had to move it a fraction and the screen was a black and it wobbled like a jelly. The aperture was around F1200 shutter speeds ranged from 1/2000 to 1/30. Shot through the bathroom window, roller blind helped stop me going blind!
Camera on a tripod, vacuum tubes propped up on an old t-shirt left hand help stop the wobble - a bit!

Nice having some detail in the sky and a bit of colour mine were all pitch black (I did get some colourful detraction type images as the sun and moon (and me) moved. I set auto exposure to -2ev which won't have helped - I probably should have changed the exposure a bit but I was excited to get an image appear clearly on my screen....

I'm impressed by the ingenuity of it all. Shows you what a bit of lateral thinking can achieve. I'll never look at our vacuum cleaner in the same way again.

If I hear another word about the eclipse I will flip. This was my 3rd in UK (1954, (or was it 55) 1999, & 2026. There is only so much that can be said about them. I like your pictures though guys. It was cloudy where I live, dead on cue you could not make it up.

I wish the television presenters could do a bit of lateral thinking though!

They must have had their worry beads out what do we do? Ask the BBC Director General, Is it to be talking about the eclipse - or telling people how hot it is and we are in a drought! Shall we combine the two so people don't forget it hasn't rained for weeks?

Thanks John, but I just used what I had available - somehow I find it a lot more satisfying than buying expensive kit.
