Newmarket Main Street At Night

I shot this image several years ago around 5 am on Main Street in the town where I live. Inspired by Martin's recent spate of night photography, I thought I'd go back and process this one in b&w. It was shot with an old digital camera (Canon 20d) so I'm not sure how good the file quality, let alone my photographic skills, but here's what I've come up with. Let me know what you think.

A very nicely composed shot and edit Steven,

The only thing to bother me is that the street lighting seems to be too bright compared with the lightening sky otherwise a very nice picture.

I prepared these comments late last night but must have forgotten to hit 'post reply':(. In summary, I agree with Norman.

My initial comment is that I like it but ....

The main 'but' is that I think that the bright street light - especially the one in the RHS foreground - need toning down as they draw the eye too much ?using a 'hard' selection intersected with a luminosity mask?Could the very dark building on the left be lightened a tad as it tends to act as a 'stopper'.

Good things about it include - for me - the 'dark to light' of the road which - in the absence of the 'too bright' lamp - would naturally pull the eye into the image and give a good sense of 3D.

If only the steets were always as quiet! Good exposure for a night time exposure with very little flare. The hint of light still in the sky (or was it dawn arriving) just adds that something and avoids an otherwise dark sky and gives a good silhouette of the roofs of the buildings.

Thanks, John, appreciate your feedback. Shot this at 5 am.
