Monitor question

Hi all,

I've done all the googling I can take so I'm just going to ask you folks for your input :)
So, I'm thinking of getting a new 27inch monitor. I'm only interested in b+w photography (viewing and printing).
I'm colour blind (red/green) and have no interest in printing colour photos.

With that, do I need to bother with a monitor which is 98-99% AdobeRGB or
would a monitor giving me 100% sRGB be enough for black and white?

Thanks
Mark

I'm no expert and I'm sure someone on here will know more about the subject but I'd think 100% sRGB is more than enough for your needs. I'm sure when I was looking, a lot of monitors were about 98% sRGB. I'd say the most important factor would be to calibrate the monitor properly so that what you print matches what you've seen on screen.
Hope that helps a little until someone more knowledgeable comes along.

Thanks Dean!. That my thought also. Hopefully others will agree :)

I've given my monitor and old PC to my youngest lad and replaced it with a 15 inch laptop which has 100% RGB.
Problem now is that I'm missing using a monitor lol, so in the running for something to replace it.
I don't really want to spend the extra if its not going to make a difference etc...

Cheers
Mark

get an iMac - seemples
even a cheap secondhand one and just use it as a monitor

I don't think Adobe rgb versus srgb matters that much especially for b&w. What does matter is:
  • IPS -panel technology
  • Wide viewing angle
  • A good calibration system
I recently purchased an LG 27" 4K UHD IPS LED Monitor. The price was very reasonable and it's ultra sharp. Works well for b&w and colour.
I was told to stay away from ultra-wide monitors for photography.

I have an Xrite Color munki display for calibration. Some monitors have built in calibration systems if you wish to pay more.

Thanks Steve. I'll take a look at that monitor.
I've a Spyder 5 for calibration.
