If you've been to Iceland, you've likely seen turf houses. They are timber structures with walls and roofs covered in turf. People have been building these houses since the 9th century when Iceland was settled. They were a response to the challenging climate and provided better insulation than wooden or stone buildings. I only wish the sky had co-operated the day I took this infrared photo in May 2017.
