The three things that Blackpool is generally associated with are the trams and the Tower and the illuminations. Not the holiday delight that it once was but I wanted to find an alternative view of the Tower in particular that was different from the standard view from the North Pier.

I don't blame you Toby. I only live a few miles away and I haven't been there for pleasure (i.e. a night out) in about 20years.
 
I like the top one a lot John. Must agree I lived near Blackpool for over 30 years and avoided the place like the plague. It's always been my idea of hell.

Helen, I lived there during my teens. It was a different place. Today, too many of the boarding houses and hotels have gone to taking easy DHS money and although you have to accept that the people being supported need somewhere too live, unfortunately it means that the place is no longer the family holiday destination that it was.
 
Beautiful contrasts and tones. Just a shame the town doesn't live up to the images. But I suppose that what makes it such an interesting place for photography
 
Thanks Joanna. You're right of course but it's been done to death photographically. Hence looking for a different viewpoint.
 
Not a fan of Blackpool - a bit cheap and tacky for my liking, but the views I presume were early morning give it a different aspect. actually making it look quite respectable. I like them especially the one with the tram lines crossing over.

John, its early evening hence the illuminations but your right. As I said above, it isn't the place it used to be.
 
I saw the decorations but they did not appear to be switched on hence my assumption it was early morning. Still like them though. Just thinking back, it was 1969 when I was there last.
 
There is a you tuber who walks around Blackpool filming in the streets, its not the best looking place. from what he shows.
But I know that if you go to any town or city you can find what you want to find.
Some people will gravitate to certain aspects of a place which will or could reflect good or bad.
Would I go to Blackpool, probably not, I don't have a reason for going.
But if I lived in the area I might.
The above photographs are great and I think if they were taken and shown to someone who had never heard of Blackpool, they would want to go there.
 
Thanks @ Oldbones. Blackpool suffers from a comparison of what it used to be. When I lived there as a teenager, there were 10 + cinemas all year round and all showing something different. I can think of 9 theatres that opened for the season, all featuring headliners. Then there was the pleasure beach etc. It was a bit of a holiday cliché with its penny arcades but it was a family holiday destination. Very little of that survives today.
 
I live in a small village just outside Blackpool, when I worked at a garage in Kirkham as a mechanic we used to spend quite a lot of time in Blackpool in the summer months. We did a lot of mobile work for the AA then, I could spend a whole week end doing mobile repairs in and around Blackpool central.
This was the 70's, it was packed with tourists then and like John mentions above plenty to do and see. My girlfriend at the time lived there and we spent many nights walking up and down the prom and inside Blackpool tower.
Now its a sh## Hole of a place, I had not been to the Tower for 25 years and decided I would go inside with my Camera to see whats changed.
I was stopped just inside the door by a rude doorman who said if you want to see anything you have to pay just to get in and the Tower is extra. You could just walk in the last time I was there with my kids. :(
 
I am too old to remember clearly, but it must have been over 70 years ago I was taken into the Tower by my parents and still have quite a vivid recall of an aquarium, and being fascinated by a tank of sea horses. Funny how some things stick in your mind. Is the aquarium still there I wonder?

You didn't miss anything Flack. I was in there not long ago for a charity event and was saddened by the tiredness of the place and the dirty greasy carpets. The ballroom is still worth a looks though.
