Unidentified accessory

Together with the reconditioned Nikon D800 that I bought on Friday was a vertical grip` and an AA battery pack but the item I have been unable to identify is a light alloy open framework attachment that fits on the vertical grip by way of a screw that fits into the base of the vertical grip. It has no serial number only the name Nikon on the side. Has anyone an inkling what it may be.

The item is the one at the top, the vertical grip is the lower, the hole in the base is where the screw from the 'accessory' screws in. I don't think it is a flash bracket because there is no place to fit a flash. Apart from the camera body which has been refurbished by Nikon UK, These items appear to be new because they were still in sealed plastic bags that came with the camera body.

It looks to me like a right angled quick release tripod plate. But I don't know for what tripod head

I believe it's a arca swiss compatible right angle tripod bracket for the camera when fitted with the battery grip.

Yes that's it. I haven't got an Arca Swiss tripod so it isn't much use to me, any use to anybody else? Offers?

I have just had a closer look at it and next to the screw in the base is another 1/4" threaded hole so it is almost certain could be used with any tripod using QR plate and adapter so long as you also had the vertical grip fitted but possibly only using a D800/810
