Turning a piece of teak

A friend practising on his 'new to him' wood lathe making an ornate part for a small bedside table lamp.

I used to make furniture, mainly out of Oak and Ash but never had a lathe. I think that it is the rate at which turnings accumulate that put me off. Just lazy really. Nicely captured John. The angle is just right to capture all aspects.
 
When I first saw the lath owner setting things up , I thought there would be a lot of shavings, but this was teak and very hard so the chisel was only lightly in touch which kept the shavings down to a minimum. What came off was more like grains of sand not shavings
