Every year for one weekend there is horse racing on the beach at St Eflam. This particular year we were is the middle of a long hot spell, but shortly after this photo was taken there was a terrific thunderstorm and the meeting was abandoned. Once the storm cleared the hot spell resumed for another couple of months.

Terrific picture Helen, bursting with energy and movement and almost gladiatorial in it's presence. Spot-on combination of shutter speed and panning rate. On a lighter note I'm enjoying trying to work out what legs belong to which horse and which buggy - sorry if that's not the correct term.

Thanks Keith. I never understood the attraction of competing in this particular event. I mean who wants to have their face that close to a horses bottom. It strikes me that it is like driving a car from the back with the exhaust pipe in front of your face. Still they seem to like it.

Keith, the term for the buggy is a Sulky. They weigh about 40 pounds according to the British Harness Racing web page. We knew a chap locally who raced and often saw him practicing in a field he owned and had had a track laid.
