The Old Monk

A good posed portrait, the problem I have is the editing look, the face does not look like skin, more like steel, and the beard is like wire wool, was it edited with a plugin like topaz
 
Tha main thing is you like the look of the editing, if it was the intended to look like a graphic image then it certainly works.

If it weren't quite so 'harsh' it would be a look that works for me Graham. It's a face that's been lived in so the editing needs to reflect that imho.
 
Looking good, how about getting rid of those little bits of hair or whatever they may be near the face and head, most distracting?

Better but still to dare i say Digitized to much, the beard still looks odd I probably out voted saying that. I dont matter a toddle what I say Nokin its what you like in the end :)
 
Many thanks for all your C/C they really have helped an old man fine tune the image. Some days I feel as old as the Monk.

I prefer the second edit to the first but for me it's still a bit harsh looking. However, as Martin said, that maybe the look you're after and it's only my opinion. Anyway, keep 'em coming.

I know the edited look in your first image is very popular in exhibitions at the moment. I am not a great fan of it, to be honest. The skin textures look "chalky" and false. I never knew how the effect was achieved, since I only use Lightroom and PS Elements. I suspected it was Topaz, Nik Effex or something. I prefer the more realistic look of your second version. I hope the fashion for this weird effect soon passes on the exhibition and salon circuit!
