About fifty years and fifty kilometres separate these two images, taken in Alsace.
The first, on the fishermen's quay in Strasbourg in the 1970s. Nikon F2, 35mm and Tri-X.
The second in Ingwiller, this week. Canon R6 MKII, 16mm f/2.8 STM.artisans_mars-80_251.jpg2025-12-16_Ingwiller_16STM-62v1.cr3.jpg

It's hard to see the images are separated by fifty years just looking at them. If you hadn't said, I wouldn't have known. I see a little face, centre far right at the counter, but that doesn't help place the period either.

Punchier blacks in the second image, more sterile both in subject and aesthetic. The first tells a story.

I bet you would see a difference if some of the prices were visible. Like the first in particular Hans. As Toby says, it tells a story.

I like them both but as Helen said - it's hard to tell them apart simply from your descriptions.

Beautiful. I much appreciate the first image. Speaks history in so many ways and it's crystal clear. Thanks for sharing.
