Not sure whether to put this image here or in "Street Photography". I have started (yet another) project, inspired by the "When Saturday Comes" images of Colin McPherson, looking at local non-league football "behind the scenes". Thanks to Stamford AFC of the Evo-Stik Northern Premier League I spent last Saturday afternoon looking for potential ideas and images. Not the most flattering of expressions, and looks a tad flat, perhaps needs a boost to bring out the best of it, maybe a bit more contrast and sharpen it up a tad,I just think it's needs a little extra something.

The mono conversion seems to have softened it a bit. You're right, it could be more contrasty too. The puzzled look is his normal expression!
 
A different treatment. More contrast, different sharpening settings, and made it a bit smaller. Can't change his expression though - my Photoshop skills are not up to that! Thanks for the comments.The Chief Steward 3.jpg
 
(Not that I can do portraits but .....) I generally think that if a portrait lets you have some idea of what the person does (football in this case) then it is a stronger image. So for me the main thing would be to have some football type reference in the image eg goalposts, football, boots, two halves :), etc. Eg see the famous portrait of Stravinsky by Arnold Newman:

I know what you mean. This image was really intended to be one of a series of prints on the theme of "When Saturday Comes", with a selection of personalities and scenes involved with local non-league football. However, I was not terribly happy with my first attempts and I need to shoot a lot more. This was the best from the first foray into the club's office.
