Sunday Morning ...

This was taken on a Sunday morning in downtown Johannesburg. This family is on their way to church. Can you see the fourth figure lying down ?

technically this is very good but I think the visual impact would have been greater if it wee just the kid or maybe one person rather than the family. I know theres meaning in there being a family on way to church but it doesn't translate that easily

I have a suspicion it might be better in colour as Im guessing the colours are strong

I like the fact that is a family, their positioning in the frame, giving the story of going to church, but feel where it has problems is that the background is very involved and in focus, so is distracting from the actual subjects. A plain background (out of focus maybe), keep the figures, shadows and path exactly as is, and you have a great image.

Welcome Mike and I have to agree with your analysis of this image. Very often we see the background taking over the subject when it should be there just to support.
