Shivering Hydrangeas

Agreed, nice one. I had a go at some frost photos the other day and it is not as easy as you might think. Getting a satisfying image without a distracting background and making the frost show nicely is decidedly tricky. At least I found it so and consequently consigned my days efforts to the bin.

Alan - thanks.

Helen - I took 34 shots, and only really liked this one. You are right, it's not as easy as you might think. Keep at it :)

Rob, thanks for mentioning how many shots you took to get one that you liked.

Sometimes, when all you see is amazing finished shots, it can get very depressing when you have just taken (say) 33 shots and had to bin them :).

Cheers, Chris. A few pro photographers of the past have said it's a good year if they get half a dozen good shots. I'd like to be that ambitious!

I wish they would introduce some soul into digital files that create textural quality in OOF areas, its a lovely image Rob

Ah, that costs extra, Martin...beyond what mere mortals can afford.
I suppose you could experiment with a higher ISO and maybe blend a couple of images together on separate layers?

Oh, I couldn't be bothered doing that. The less time I spend at a computer, the better. The one thing I didn't think of when looking at the 130MB raw file rather than this 256kb jpg, is that the image "lacked soul". And it printed beautifully.

'Soul' is the representation of an emotion within us that is triggered by an image that connects with the past or a belief we carry within ourselves. For many soul can represented by imperfections that remind us of previous feelings or memories. It gets more difficult when you feel you need to 'buy' soul from Leica or any other camera company. Marketing is all about making us believe that we connect emotionally with a product or service, one way or another. For example they have just re-released their old 50 f1.2 lens, wanting to capitalise on those that feel that if they have the lens they might in some way relate to a previous time. In some way they will have new imperfections rather than older imperfections. I might be over analysing this, but hey ......
