Mottling on film

Over on the UK Large Format Photography forum https://www.5x4.co.uk/threads/any-ideas-whats-caused-this-problem.1270/#post-10851 Martin Henson posted an image showing extensive mottling. I have had a similar issue on three rolls of 120 FP4+, this is an example. My film is stored in a bedroom in a cool cupboard and I have never had this problem before.


Ilford FP4+ ID11 11 minutes at 20°C
Batch No. 78BFN1C01/03 Expiry date: June 2023

This is the third roll out of a batch of ten I bought from SpeedGraphic on the 25/03/2020, all of which showed this problem. I will be contacting Ilford for their comments.

Hi Keith,

I think I saw in a Facebook film group that this was a problem with some Ilford film(s) recently.
Seemed like it was almost a known issue. I'll see if I can find it - was a number of weeks ago.

Definitely worth checking with Ilford.

Keith, exactly the same as what I discovered. If you have the contact details for Ilford would you be so kind as to let me know them. I had three films out of four so far destroyed in my last batch of five.

I've read about this too. It seems that Ilford haven't been as forthcoming about this as they might have been
