Hit And Miss

Here's a few taken over a few minutes in a restaurant, so will probably offend some. But with a discreetmm4.jpg camera no one really noticed. B&W were ISO1250 and F2 or f2.8, mm2 was colour at f1.7 and converted to B&W.

mm4 doesn't work, even though reasonably well framed.
mm3 is a bit better with a bit of movement, shows the buzz of the place a bit, but the seated man is pulling a face. I also wish he was better dressed. There are 3 pairs of people in the same space, but in different focal planes, which I think have been fairly well differentiated.
mm2 the bokeh is quite nice, but the colour image is better.
mm1 is the only one that really works in my book. Nice backdrop. The subject is trying to look like she's enjoying herself, but everyone has their back to her and she seems very isolated.

Very little processing other than converting mm2 to b&w.

I like them all, as a series. Classic B&W style, in a Parisian way. Beautiful looking restauarant too!

Yes, I totally agree they all work for me. If I had to pick just one it would be the last one (mm2) of the waiter cutting the meat.

Well, that just goes to show. The only one I really like is mm1. The one with the maitre d' is a bit of a holiday postcard type picture, when in colour, but it does show the benefit of chatting to the person first and then asking him if it would be OK to take a picture. He was happy to oblige, taking pride in running one of the better establishments in town.

Maybe this will encourage a few more hit and miss series as, if this is an example, there are very different views on good and bad, interesting and boring. I might post a portrait next.

Given the amount of post-processing that seems to go on here, maybe hit and miss processing of the same image.

'fraud they don't grab me at all, except the tones are quite nice in the MM2 with the waiter

No worries, only took them as we were waiting for the fish course.

I don't like mm2 as it is a bit grainy and was taken with auto focus, which I do not really like. It has touch and shoot, but you look like an idiot doing that. My b&w camera is fully manual, so I'm in control.
