Hi - I'm Mike who has now retired and is determined to rediscover the joys, the trials, the tribulations and all the delights of black and white photography. Since my first 35mm camera, a Voigtländer Vito C bought when I was 12, through a range of cameras such as a Leica Model 1, a Rolleiflex 2.8F, a Speed Graphic, the occasional Leica M3 and M6 and multiple Pentax models, I have always been entranced by the opportunities of black and white photography. I'm certain that I don't have to rehearse them here. Now, as I approach elderliness and dodderiness at an increasing pace, I find that although I have the time I don't have the resilience to carry a heavy bag or two stuffed with bodies and lenses any more. Not only that but I've embraced the art of digital photography and bought a Leica V-Lux 4 (Type 114) that seemed, at first sight, overly complicated but having played with it for a little while I think I'm ready to get out there once again. Hopefully I shall be posting the results soon.

Take care,
Mike

Welcome from a German member, also looking forward to your contribution! The V Lux was my choice, till the devil let a q2m pass my way! Perhaps the VLux would have done, but here we are.

Hi Jay - good to hear from you too........I'm currently in St Malo, France and returning to the UK on Saturday......I'll be out and about next week and, hopefully, have something to post from the new camera then....in the next three months I'm scheduled to go to Nice, Dubai and Berlin, with yet another trip to Siracusa, Sicily. Should be able to come up with the goods.

Take care,
Mike

I have just got back from Berlin. It's one of those places where I think I didn't have the knowledge to recognise and appreciate the opportunities around me!

Ah - Berlin..... a city that I have slightly schitzophrenic feelings about - the lakes and Tiergarten are areas that I do like......it's amazing how the area around the Ku'damm has changed for the worse now that it doesn't have to be the showplace of the capitalist west and the flashy take over of the former East Berlin (Hauptstadt) is nothing to write home about, unless you like lots of steel and glass buildings.......but the history, whether the few visible remnants of the pre-1945 city or those left from the years of the DDR, are worth a visit and, from someone whose avatar reflects his personal appearance and philosophy, the vibes....oh, the vibes.

Take care,
Mike.

Sounds like a nice little side trip, enjoy!

Mike, I was in your positions, but now in the later position, trouble walking, tremors required I get a camera with IBIS, Best camera I ever had was too heavy to carry etc. So I strongly encourage you to shoot your heart out. If you are like me, loving B&W since I started with that. There wasn't anything else and I had an inherited Kodak box. Your are in for a treat with your new fine camera. Are you going to shoot in color and convert, or shoot in just B&W? Either way it's an adventure you can look forward and enjoy.
Sorry if this is unwanted encouragement from an old guy across the pond, but I sincerely mean it. John

Hi John - and thank you for your supportive and encouraging mail. In fact, I have been humbled by the flow of good wishes on this forum. Yes, I have always been an avid user of b&w and will be shooting in b&w exclusively. As you will have seen from an earlier reply, I have a heavy upcoming schedule that will see me into February next year and I fully intend to "shoot my heart out", as you so delightfully put it. I hope that you're doing the same. No such thing as unwanted encouragement, I do assure you.

Take care,
Mike
