Hello there,

I was having a Google search for 'photo forums UK' and this one turned up. I was astonished to see one dedicated to B&W. I'm just an old fart who used to do my own film processing etc and now occasionally turn something into B&W from a colour pic. I might do more if the site accepts nudes, tasteful and graceful ones I hasten to add?

Cheers - J
[Edit]
I recall seeing the pic below years ago in AP at the time I was doing exhibition reviews for the magazine and got a free copy and a fee. I felt quite elated to be asked the bloke was quite honest and explained that lots of people had declined and said he could help me with my first review so I agreed, not many exhibitions in the West Mids anyway. What could possibly go wrong! The first one he asked me to do was Eve Arnold! I knew she was a Magnum member and you had to be invited to join in those days, all those film set pics with Marilyn! I struggled and he re-wrote it for me. A couple of years later he left and went to live in Japan and the column closed.

Anyway in one of the mags was an article about Anne Wardrope Brigman and this image a self portrait from 1908;

It's called The Soul of the blasted Pine
Anne.jpg

It jumped off the page I'd seen lots of nudes but nothing like this. Look at the way she stretches, she's holding on to the side of the tree to support the stretch. Look at the angle of her head and follow her sight line. Look at the angle of her left hand perfectly posed to emphasise the stretch. She is the Soul and she made me believe it.

After seeing so much nude puerile crap (still about but only more so) it was a revelation.

Cheers - J

This image is well before it's time. So many thoughts around this. A dying tree and someone giving it attention, hope. The connection between nature and humans. A human and tree down to the bare elements.
