It's now been a few days since the new Mac Mini M4 series started to arrive with people who bought them on the release date.
So far, the results are looking very good indeed apart from maybe the power button placement.

Have you taken the plunge and ordered one yet?

Also interested, is the basic M4 good enough for DXO PL8?

Do previews load instantly. Are adjustments smooth?

Thoughts appreciated.

Well, there's been no adverse comments so far in the DxO forums.

I still have a 2019 MacBook Pro and PL8 runs pretty well on that. In fact, PL8, along with the FilmPack 7 and ViewPoint 5 plugins, has to be one of the better releases for a while. I am loving it. A very nice, all in one, tool.

You need to work out if PL8 is a GPU or CPU type application. The base 16GB of Ram might just be on the edge if you have multiple apps open

I havent purchased one yet but after doing sevral tests for my workflow, I have decided that the Pro model with 48GB RAM will be ample for Adobe products as they are more RAM based than GPU.

Choosing the Mini was fairy easy, but choosing a monitor with an acceptable color space.... now that's a different ball game altogether.
I had my eye on a nice BenQ 32 inch 4K display but the more you drill down into the specs, the more is revealed.

For this particular monitor I was looking at, it only supported 98% sRGB

Or you could just read the release notes…

As for CPU vs GPU, as far as I can tell, the M series chips seem to integrate them. As for memory, I`'m running my MacBook Pro with 16GB memory and it's plenty fast enough. Don't forget, PhotoLab only really needs power when it is exporting the edited image and doesn't need anywhere near the memory that Adobe does while editing. And the 48GB Pro model is really very expensive overkill - at least, for PhotoLab.

I use a 27" Apple Studio Display, which runs in the P3 colour space, so plenty of room to spare. Or, if you've got money to burn and need something bigger, you could always go for the 32" Pro Display XDR but, at £4600 !!!
