Hard drive destruction

I have been having a clear out and re-discovered 2 old hard drives that were replaced with SSD's a good while back. What is the best way of destroying them just in case they should fall into the wrong hands, there is quite a bit of information on both which should be made unreadable.. One is from a laptop and the other a desk top. When I had a wood burner I used to pop them onto the logs for an hour or so but now totally centrally heated I don't have the option

Oh yes! One of each actually. I get your drift!

I will wait until I feel angry about something and then let loose. (Like the post office scandal, that really get my blood boiling)!

Or something more with a sadistic streak. I can use my engineers vice with wide jaws and crush them slowly, sideways on. anything so long as the disk is destroyed.

You can try drilling a couple of holes in them with a 10mm drill, most hard drives have an Aluminium casting one side and a thinner metal cover on the other. Drill from the thinner side.

A 2 lb club hammer, coupled with thoughts of my noisome neighbours noisy dogs followed by cooking the contents of each for 10 mins with a blow torch I think they are now unusable scrap.

Never heard of cooking dogs with a blow torch ! Normally find a slow cooker does them best o_O

I was thinking of them when hitting the H/Drives with the hammer. Not that I would hurt an animal I just wish they would get them to stop barking.

One popular option is drilling some holes right through them – makes 'em pretty useless. Or, if you're feeling particularly destructive, a sledgehammer can work wonders.
