Yes, great composition and liking the space for him to look into. And good background.

Only improvement I can think of as the icing would be something just recognisable in the background to show the horsey context.

Did you ask permission/pose him?
 
Hey thanks for commenting. Permission? I've yet to break this barrier, I just go for it especially at events like this one photographers everywhere, everyone on show. With this one folk worry about the white area in top right, have done another edit with this much reduced.
 
I really like this one. It has a beautiful 3D effect and your edit is superb. Keep the light top right as it lets him look out of the frame and also serves as a source of light for those great tones.
