Hello, I'm Martyn from Morecambe overlooking the beautiful bay on the west coast of Lancashire in the UK. I've been a keen photographer on and off for many years, but being recently widowed and retired I find myself with all the time in the world to pursue this art form. For some reason I feel drawn towards mono photography and have been posting on another forum. Many of the comments I receive on my pictures go something like, "good picture, but....", and the name of Martin Henson and "contrast grading" keeps coming up. Since Martin is one of the admin here I thought what better way to improve my photography than to join the community and see what I can learn from you all. Here is my latest image, nice picture, but.......

Welcome, Martyn. Just remember, constructive criticism is a good thing. It makes you a better photographer. This is a good image, but....I'd like to see more detail in the shadows of the boat's underbody.

A lovely moody photograph, maybe more shadow detail, however, I think with this type of image that promotes a feeling of desolation, end of an era, I like as is.

As Steven says you will get good solid advice on this forum, I always say that in the end it’s the photographers vision that counts, if your happy with it without tweaking parts as might be suggested, that’s all that matters, go with your gut instinct and stick firm.
