Last weekend's weekend soundtrack was that of steam trains on the heritage line that now runs on what was the far end of the London Underground Central Line. Unfortunately my work prevents me from a proper visit, and as with the Spitfires that fly in and out of the adjacent airfield all weekend, bar the odd fleeting glimpse of Mitchell's timelessly graceful wing as the pilots perform a low pass, or the puff of white steam over the trees on the skyline, I'm limited to auditory joys. I did however catch the last few moments of the steam gala as the magnificent engines were bedded, gently hissing, ticking, grinding and clanking, into their nightime repose. Into an awkwardly bright late afternoon sun I used the last 5 or 6 frames of some 35mm HP5, and some fleeting shots with a digital camera, all of them from the most awkward vantage point stuck behind a large water tank. I just managed to make the most of these two inauspicious digital frames by rendering them in suitably gritty fashion. I'll see in due course if the HP5 offered anything worthwhile.
