Early Attempt At Studio Work

(I speak from a position of a total lack of experience in even trying a shot like this but my comments are ....)

I think your lighting and exposure are good.

For this type of image I think they are stronger when the viewer cannot tell immediately what parts of the body are in the image.

So for me a horizontal crop just above the elbows and a bit off the then remaining lhs, would strengthen it as I would then have to work out what exactly what it was.:)

Super pose and smashing skin texture Trevor but the hair is an unwarranted intrusion imho. Many of the classical shots like this tend to over-dramatise the lighting and over process the image so for me this is a welcome and refreshing change. Very nice indeed.

Thanks for your comments. Sorry to say that the composition was deliberately set up to emphasise the arms and hands, and the inclusion of the bit of hair was a conscious decision although I did try it without first. I wasn't really after an abstract, but I didn't think this image would fit in the portrait section!

I agree with Keith 100% - my post above looks very begrudging and does not give you the credit for a photo with great tones:)

I wonder if you would emphasis the arms and the hands even more if the picture was cropped from the top down to the bottom of the hair. Maybe a slice from the left would help the balance. The tones are good, the curves are pleasing and I would like to see more images along these lines.

I like the tones and lighting, but I find the hair an unecessary distraction, and the pose looks somehow awkward and unatural, sorry , but if it is cropped just below the shoulder blades and also a bit off the left ,it then seems to look right, to me anyway, just my opinion.

Thanks for the comments. I've put another image from this studio session under "portraits" (for obvious reasons)
