Dead oak tree studies

Interesting shots Toby. Are these recent studies of a long-fallen tree or were they taken nearer the time the tree fell? I have triptychs on my mind for a competition so i find myself sensitised to them. The last three side-by-side might make a good one.

Thank you, Glenn. These were all taken a couple of weeks ago - we kept the base of the tree in the field close to where it fell, and there it remains all these years later. We planted another oak next to it, which is thriving.

Great images. I do like the bleached appearance of oak, which is so resilient long after it's died. Obviously why it was chosen for medieval galleons and church roofs. I often imagine the number of human generations that span the 300 years an oak can take to grown to its full size.

Nice series Toby. You've brought out the texture of old wood beautifully. Could also be used as textured BG's if you were into that sort of thing
