I have just received this E mail from Adobe:-

we hope you are enjoying the apps and services in your Photography plan (20GB) subscription. We want to share an important update about your subscription.

The price of the Photography plan (20GB) annual, billed monthly plan is changing from £9.98/month to £14.99/month (including applicable Tax/VAT) on your next renewal date. To maintain your effective current base rate (excluding any promotions) you can change your subscription to an annual, prepaid plan.

Your subscription will renew automatically on 10-November-2025 (PT), and your subscription will automatically renew annually until you cancel. Price subject to change at renewal. You may cancel at any time via Adobe Account or Customer Support.

No warning, no hints, just a fait accomplait. A 50% increase just like that! Well they can go and get stuffed. I have been thinking about dumping Adobe for a while and they have just given me the excuse/reason to do it. I will use my experience of shutting the modem off when I use adobe and it still works - well I have already paid for it. Then the added incentive to keep my current 'plan' I have to pay annually. Why don't they say what they mean in the first sentence change the words, 'Important Update' to plain price increase However they try and dress it up you can still see through the non-existant suit of clothes!

All the more reason to consider a buy and own product like DxO's Photolab 9.

First year purchase - £220
Subsequent year upgrade - £110

Total £330 over two years = £165pa

Adobe new subscription for two years - £360 = £180pa and over three years - £540

Not much difference you might say, but the big difference is that you are not obliged to upgrade every year and the upgrade price is valid even if you skip one version.

So, that makes PhotoLab 9 £330 over three years = £110pa.

What is more, PhotoLab keeps on working whether you upgrade or not.

And, if you need pixel manipulation, stacking, panoramics, etc, you can always add Affinity Photo for something like £50

Actually Joanna they are pushing me more and more to using an 'old fashioned' darkroom. Old fashioned my foot. Yes the enlarger, dish heaters processors are all at least 25 yrs old possibly more but as effective now as when they were new(er). I will still need my printer but not an A3 one and I also can have an old version of Paint Shop Pro which will work on a windows 10 computer. That will only be used to clean up prints I make and post onto the sites like this one.
