Carrot tops resurgence of growth

This came about after me telling my two grand daughters that if you place a carrot top in a shallow dish of water, they would start to grow again. They didn't believe me! Oh they of little faith.

From left to right the 1st (the tallest) is after 3 weeks, the next after 12 days, the third is a week old and the one on the right was started today so no growth yet.

I had a similar problem with my daughter whan she was six. She simply wouldn't believe that cheese is cut with wire or that glass is made from sand.
