A British plane with a Polish crew crashed on Bucked Pike during the war in bad weather, think it was a snow storm, the pilot, badly injured, managed to drag himself down in the snow to the village of Buckden to get help, mountain rescue of sorts went to the crash site but the rest of the crew were dead, no recognition of this ever happening until I think, around 1980is {date might be wrong) and the Pilot had this cross erected in memorial to his crew members
