Found in a disposal bin of 'unwanted' bits and pieces in a charity shop. A Nikon F601. The poor-mans F801. It has seen better days but wasn't in too bad a shape cosmetically, the back was a bit polished and the plastic coating has almost all flaked off, but no battery to test it.

Anyway the BHF are £5 better off! and I took it home and fitted a battery I have had for years - it worked and focussed very well without hesitation with 35/70 3.3/4.5 Nikon AF lens. The insides are clean with no corrosion in the film rails or film plate The shutter speeds on manual sound OK.

I am going to give it a test tomorrow providing it isn't to cold to venture out.

I have exposed part of a 100iso 35mm Kentmere film and all looks very good. - That is apart from me having over cooked the developing. I used my JOBO processor, but forgot to reduce the development tome by the 15% suggested. The film strip is hanging up to dry at the moment and I will scan the film and send a few of the better ones.
What took me a little aback was how lightweight the camera and lens is so there may be a bit of camera shake but the exposures, frame spacing is spot on, It actually feels lighter than my F80!

A fiver for the camera which is in full working (including the flash) is chicken feed, so I will visit the B.H.F. charity shop and donate another tenner, it is well worth it.

These are 5 out of I think 12 that I took and there is nothing wrong with the working of the camera. The lens is sharp enough too

A great buy, certainly a better one than the mint, boxed and unused F3 that accidentally bought at auction the other day.

I love the Tanfield pics too.

Thanks for the comment. I volunteer here each Sunday as a tour guide (It is the worlds oldest railway historically from 1725) so I get the opportunity for a good few pictures not normally available to the general public

There is certainly nothing wrong with the lens sharpness and definition. Looks like you found a bargain.

Actually I already owned he lens, it was only the camera body I needed. But yes it is a little cracker I have never compared it with my 35/70 2.8 AFD That would be pretty pointless now because there is balsam separation in the rear elements so the contrast is really gone off the peak. Sadly that cannot be repaired.
