Abandoned House

Taken today up at the Holland Marsh. This abandoned structure was sitting in a field of weeds. It was probably at one time the home of a migrant worker who migrate here from Mexico, India, Central America, etc. to pick the many varieties of vegetables through the summer and fall. Cheap labour. I like this Steven, it is a good example of IR photography. Did you need to do much PP? I just wondered at the sharpness of the structure.

Thanks, Norman. With this conversion camera, not too much PP is required and most of it can be done in LR. I added tonal contrast to the old house to separate it from the dark sky, everything seemed to blend in. Images straight out of the camera have a slight pinkish colour cast easily fixed by desaturating the image in LR. I'm trying to figure out why that's happening.

If your images are of a pink cast then it is safe to say it is not recording as a pure black and white image I would therefor assume some kind of colour balance is required in camera, take a picture filling the frame with a white piece of card in the same light as you are shooting, save that as a custom white balance and see it that removes more of the cast.

Super image, with a real feel of desolation, living in the middle of nowhere, with a great feeling of space, something that is disappearing fast on this overcrowded little island, well particularly in East Anglia anyway o_O

My converted p&s produces black and white jpegs. When I use chdk to produce raw (dng) files they have a magenta cast.
Are you using jpegs or raw?

I only shoot in RAW. I could colour balance in RAW but it's just as easy to set your camera to a custom white balance. Actually, all you need to do to get rid of the cast is desaturate the file in LR or Camera Raw, that's probably the easiest.
