I see photoshop elements is available as a perpetual licence, would it let you do contrast grading,? I tried to find the info on Adobe but all it does is tell you a thousand ways how simple it is

Yes, you should be able to use layers to do contrast grading.

I've only ever used PS CS3. Just do what I do and Google it ;)

If you really need more of the full-blown PS experience, why not go for Affinity Photo?

I do have that but if I can get an interface I'm used to Id be happier

Could get round to learning Affinity I suppose , everything so tiny though- I wrotee to them about that ages ago

Nope. MacBook Pro 16" plus Apple 27" monitor
how do you get it to work on Catalina? My MBP came with Catalina installed and I can't get Ps to work on it nor can I go back to a previous OS

Have PS working on my 27" iMac but sitting at it is giving me too much gipp which is why I got a laptop

I can't use PS CS3 on Catalina, which is why I put up with Affinity Photo.

If you are really desperate, then you could install macOS High Sierra in a Parallels virtual machine under Catalina and run PS within that.

Without downgrading the OS or running virtual software 32Bit Photoshop will not install. What issues are you having with the iMac. If is software, I can remote login to it and fix it for you which is what I do with @Martin Henson when things goes pear shape.

I've just had a thought! Why not use Apple's excellent screen sharing to operate the iMac from your MacBook Pro?

trying to make my life simpler not more complicated!

that won't will let me engage the OS 10.14 though I'd still be running from the MBP OS?

Thanks Ian not software, it's my neck and back - completely what's the polite word....screwed

The key is that the iMac is running 10.14 and the MBP, even though it is running 10.15, is only viewing and interacting with the screen of the iMac.

Go to Finder on your MBP. In the left sidebar, you should see an icon for your iMac. Click on it and choose "share screen", the enter your account name and password for the iMac. It can take a short while for the connection to be made but, then, you should be able to see and interact with the iMac as if you were sat in front of it

I did a trial of Ps Elements and all I can say is -horrible
AND it doesn't have the most essential control of all -curves (not that I can find anyway)

that's a crafty thought... but the iMac is upstairs in a very small overcrowded room which has no where proper to sit so Id need to to connect to my MBP downstairs

the wifi already has trouble over that distance and bluetooth struggles if anyone walks in front of it

can it work over a distance?

I really need to sit on the sofa for my back which has gone from being able to do Flying side kicks 2 years ago to nerve pains along my legs and back etc

Mind you I shouldn't grumble my best mate , a triathlete a year older than me has had his whole leg go numb compleytely from working too much at his computer

That shouldn't be a problem. As long as the iMac is set to allow screen sharing (one time setup), the connection is all done from the MBP

As long as both computers can see the wifi, they should be able to connect

I have added two small repeaters (Apple Airport Express) to my wifi because it is around 15 metres from the wifi base (AirPort Extreme) to the other end of the house. If the signal is that weak, it's a good idea and the Apple one's are fairly automatic to setup.

Here's a couple of screenshots of how to share:

First, here's what you should see in Finder on your MBP

Finder.png

And here's what the screen being from the iMac looks like, as seen on the MBP, when I click on the green dot on the screen share window to make it full screen.

What you are looking at here is the full screen of the iMac displayed on the MBP and, as you can see, it's just like you are sitting at the real screen of the iMac
