I am trying to like Affinity Photo but I am so happy with my simple old version of Photoshop (which I have to use on my old PC) that it's a struggle I just don't need or want all of the options...

Nothing wrong with that Steve.

I am not an ambassador for Affinity but I quite like using the Photo/Publisher combo. Photo for edits and Publisher for framing or making presentations. They work well together in my view. Alternatives are available.

I wouldn't mind if you were I know a lot of photographers that are very happy with their products and use them all the time for various things you certainly can't fault them for their product or their pricing.

I guess since I have used my version of Photoshop for so long it's like a nice warm blanket, although to contradict myself, a lot of my processing in recent years has been done with Darktable and that is free but strangely difficult for me to install on my MacBook - so far......
